Going from CyberLink PowerDirector to Adobe Premiere Pro

This post describes my journey of shifting from editing with Cyberlink PowerDirector to Adobe Premiere Pro

For many years I edited with Cyberlink PowerDirector, a relatively simple and user-friendly editing software. I created with PowerDirector hundreds of videos, and some of them were very successful.

As a content creator, I constantly strive to improve the quality of my content. It was a dilemma about what should I do to create better videos, so I considered the available alternatives.

Eventually, I realized that the best option is to switch to more advanced editing software.

My choice was to go with Adobe Premiere Pro, which is considered to be a media industry-standard editing software.

The purpose of this post is to share my personal experience of switching from one editing software (Cyberlink PowerDirector) to a different one (Adobe Premiere Pro).

Since this is an ongoing post, I will update this story over time, so I will be able to tell it properly.

What is Cyberlink PowerDirector?

To keep things simple, PowerDirector is editing software, that is suitable for the beginner/average user.

Once in awhile PowerDirector gets updates (Currently are available PowerDirector 18 & PowerDirector 365), so if you consider working with it – I advise you to visit CyberLink’s website to find the latest version.

Why I decided to make this move?

I’ve been using PowerDirector for more than a decade, and most of the time, it has been a pleasure using it to edit my videos.

But as I evolved as a content creator, I realized that none of the content creators I strive to be one day is using simple editing software.

Those who work with PC computers as I do, usually edit with Adobe Premiere Pro.

There was a certain point that I thought I could bypass the need to learn to work with Adobe Premiere Pro. It was when I decided to re-branded “Original Video Reviews” during 2018.

It was the first time I tried to work with Premiere, but after 5 minutes, I decided that I have no time for that. Instead, I outsourced this project to someone else (on Fiverr), who did an excellent job for a price that I could afford.

For a while, it seemed to be the right solution until I realized that in today’s environment, if I’m taking myself seriously as a content creator – I must know how to work with industry-standard editing software.

Usually, Adobe’s software is sold for a full price. Luckily, when I decided to purchase the annual subscription for Adobe Premiere Pro, it was the best time of the year to do that – Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

So I jumped on the boat, purchased an annual subscription for Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe CC), which includes Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and more.

A brilliant video that explains about the Adobe ecosystem in 10 minutes

Though I’m switching to Adobe Premiere Pro, it doesn’t mean the end of my love story with PowerDirector, and I plan to keep using it occasionally.

Why it was worth switching to Adobe Premiere Pro?

My ability and understanding as a content creator improves.

My value as a potential employee/service giver goes up.

The quality of my videos rises to a new standard.

I can generate more types of quality content that aligns well with what I do.

The learning curve is not as frightening as I expected it to be.

The Adobe ecosystem becomes your best friend.

The frogs I had to swallow when doing the transition:

Cyberlink PowerDirector is cheaper.

The CyberLink ecosystem is generous.

Cyberlink PowerDirector is much easier to master.

It takes time to learn how to work with Adobe’s software.

The pace of my content production slowed down drastically at the beginning of the process.

There are specific projects that don’t require more than simple editing software.

Please note:
