Summary:
External SSD hard drive with a capacity of 500GB by Samsung.
The brand: Samsung
The model: T5 Series (500GB) / MU-PA500B/AM
The pros:
Price – I purchased this SSD drive for less than $100 (excluding tax & shipping). The price dropped significantly around the time I purchased it, and I think this is a great excuse for everyone who ever considered purchasing an external SSD drive to get one.
Before purchasing this SSD drive, I made a market research on which external SSD drive should I get, and considering the capacity/price/brand factors – this one offered an excellent value for money (though you can find several other brand names that offers similar models)..
Speed – Once you start using SSD drive, it’s hard to switch back to a normal hard-drive (this isn’t a slogan – you can take my word for that).
Currently, I mostly use this SSD drive for video editing of my content, and it works well and makes my life so much better.
The storage capacity – As of the time I’m writing this review, in my opinion, a capacity of 500GB for SSD hard-drive should be the minimal standard. It would be hard for me to settle for less than that, so the smaller version of 250GB would be irrelevant for me, while I would consider the larger models with 1TB etc.
It supports USB-C – The SSD drive comes with 2 cables – USB & USB-C.
Compact measurements – You probably can say that about most SSD drives, but since this is my first ever external SSD drive, from now on, it would be my benchmark for size/weight of SSD drive.
I love the case color – The external metal case of the 500GB is a shining & vivid metal blue, which looks much better than the boring black of the 1TB model.
The cons:
You should get a protective case if you travel with it – I tell myself for a long time now, that I must get a protective case for this SSD drive, for 2 main reasons:
- The case might be scartched
- The USB cables might be bent/damaged (The USB-C is prone to damage, especially if it is still plugged to the SSD drive while traveling).
