Pros
Speed – It is obvious to say that, but the main justification to purchase SSD is because it is fast.
I’m using it for video editing when I run out of space on my laptop, and the workflow stays almost the same.
Familiar brand – Samsung’s SSD drives are considered to be very reliable.
Reliable series – This is my second Samsung T5, as I already bought one with 500GB back in 2018.
My personal experience with the first T5 was very good, which is why I decided to get another one.
SSD capacity – With the growing amount of data & media we are dealing with today, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that even a 1TB SSD is not enough for some people (i.e. content creators). But after already owning a 500GB SSD, I don’t see myself settling for less than 1TB SSD.
Cons
There are newer models – Samsung introduced the T7, T7 Touch & T7 Shield, which are faster and have several more features.
If the T7 series is on sale, and the price difference compared to the T5 is marginal, then it’s a no-brainer and you should get the newer models.
However, as long as the T5 pricing would be cheaper compared to the T7 series, many people can settle happily for the T5.
SSD is still expensive compared to HDD – The major con of SSDs is that they are still more expensive compared to traditional hard disk drives (HDDs).
If you only consider using the external drive for storage, then purchasing an SSD is more of a luxury than a necessity purchase.
Larger Capacity SSD drives are still expensive – Having the choice, I would prefer to go with the SSD that has the largest storage capacity. But unfortunately, their absolute price is still high. So instead of buying the 2TB that I want, I prefer to save the money and postpone the purchase for a different time.
