Product details
Brand: Samsung
Model: Galaxy A06
The Samsung Galaxy A06 was released in August 2024 and is available in several countries and regions. Positioned as an entry-level smartphone, it is designed to be an affordable option with essential features for users who prioritize basic functionality over high-end specs.
The Galaxy A06 comes in both non-5G and 5G versions. 5G is the fifth generation of mobile network technology, offering faster data speeds, lower latency, and improved connectivity compared to previous generations. The non-5G version offers options with 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage. The 5G version has similar configurations.
It currently runs Android 14, and Samsung’s One UI 6.1 offers up to 2 generations of OS upgrades and 4 years of security maintenance.
The price range for the non-5G 4GB/64GB version, which is the one I got for myself and is shown in this review, is approximately 100 USD. Prices may vary depending on the specifications, region, retailer promotions, or regional taxes, etc.

Pros
Price – As an entry-level smartphone, you can buy the Galaxy A06 for approximately $100, and you might even find it for less. In the category of entry-level smartphones for 2025, this is a fair price, especially considering it is manufactured by Samsung. This factor alone is attractive for people who want the Samsung brand name on their smartphone. You probably pay a little extra for the brand here, as you can find other smartphones in this price range that might offer similar or even better specifications for this category. In my case, I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing of this smartphone.
Design – It has a clean and elegant design, a large screen, reasonable illumination, a silver-metal frame, and buttons and ports in the right places. Note that the Galaxy A06 comes in several colors, and though I usually go with solid black, I chose to get mine in light-blue, and I am happy that I did (excluding the apparent fingerprints). This is exactly the type of smartphone that looks good, and no one will suspect you bought it for cheap. Even if someone does, you’ll feel so good with it that you won’t even care about the price.
Overall performance for daily tasks – The Galaxy A06 is well-suited for common daily tasks and apps, such as phone calls, social media, web browsing, and taking photos and videos. I mostly noticed lags when using the fingerprint sensor to unlock the smartphone, as I had to wait for it to become responsive. This can be annoying, especially when you need to use the smartphone quickly. However, I’ve encountered lags in almost every smartphone I’ve ever had, so I’m trying to be as reasonable as possible here. Most of the time, the Galaxy A06 handles these activities efficiently, provided you don’t use heavy apps. This usage pattern aligns with how most average users utilize their smartphones today, especially in the markets where this device is targeted.
Battery life – After a full charge of the 5,000mAh battery, normal use for daily tasks, as described in the previous paragraph, should last for 1-2 days without any issues. If you don’t use it much, it will last even longer in standby mode (when the device is on but not in use).
Display – Let’s put things in perspective. Compared to a premium smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is my main device, the Galaxy A06’s display quality isn’t on the same level in terms of photos, videos, colors, or brightness. However, among all the entry-level smartphones I’ve owned over the years, the Galaxy A06 has the most impressive display. It might not have the best specs in its category, but the 6.7″ screen looks good.
Camera for basic use – Entry-level smartphones, especially cheaper ones from unfamiliar brands, often exaggerate their specifications, only for users to find they don’t live up to the claims. However, this isn’t the case with the Galaxy A06. I was pleasantly surprised by the images and videos I managed to take with this camera, especially during daytime with good lighting, and even at night with sufficient light. When you understand its limitations, you’ll find that it’s a pretty good camera for basic use.
Cons
No NFC – You can’t pay with this smartphone or use it for any other purposes NFC allows. This should probably be the biggest drawback why not to buy this smartphone. Once you get used to the features that NFC enables on your phone, it’s hard to give them up. However, as a smartphone for small kids, for work, or as a second phone, I don’t see any problem with the lack of NFC.
Camera advanced features – The limitations of the camera in smartphones in this price range shouldn’t be surprising or disappointing. The Galaxy A06 is no exception, as these limitations become evident quickly. For example, the camera’s zoom, both in stills and video, isn’t brilliant. Additionally, it doesn’t perform well in low light conditions.
Side fingerprint sensor – Most of the time, the sensor works well, but it requires me to hold the smartphone in a specific position to place my finger so I can scan it. This is less convenient compared to fingerprint sensors located on the front of the smartphone, which can be operated relatively easily without needing to grab the phone. Regardless of that, I see it as a bonus that this feature exists in this model because when I bought the Galaxy A06, I wasn’t even aware that it had a fingerprint sensor.
Speaker audio quality – I wasn’t able to find an official source confirming this, but it seems the Galaxy A06 doesn’t support stereo sound. The sound isn’t awful if you plan on using it for phone calls with the speaker on. However, if a surround sound experience is important to you when playing apps, watching videos, or listening to music, you’ll realize how inferior this phone is compared to more expensive smartphones.
Internal storage space – If you plan to install apps that require a lot of space, download movies, and use the camera often, then don’t rely too much on the Galaxy A06’s internal storage. You can solve this by using the external memory slots, but in this case, I suspect it might cause longer loading and response times for the files and decrease the performance of the media and the phone.
Summary
The Samsung Galaxy A06 is a solid choice for budget-conscious individuals, including those looking for a reliable smartphone for kids, work, or as a secondary device. With its affordable price, clean design, and solid performance for daily tasks, it offers great value.
I believe that even people who typically spend more money on smartphones might be pleasantly surprised to find that this smartphone can be more than enough for their needs.
In my opinion, the most significant drawback is the lack of NFC, which limits its use for contactless payments and other NFC-enabled features.
Overall, the Galaxy A06 provides a positive experience for users seeking an entry-level smartphone.
