Pros
Sound quality – I’m still testing this microphone, but the sound quality is excellent. I compared it with the BOYA BY-MM1 shotgun microphone (that I already reviewed), and the results sound about the same, which is a good thing.
Extremely light – It is mostly made of plastic, but considering its size, an overall weight of 52 grams makes it lighter even than much smaller microphones.
No battery required – The microphone works right off the bat, once you plug it into the device you’re using with it.
Suitable with smartphones – This is a versatile microphone that operates both with cameras & smartphones. It might seem weird that I mention that, but I still encounter limited models that work only with smartphones or cameras, and not both.
The same cable works with cameras & smartphones – At the back of the Comica CVM-V30 Lite, it has a built-in 3.5mm coiled output cable that fits into both cameras & smartphones.
Beneath it is a switch that will set the microphone to work with either a smartphone (right) or a camera (left).
Usually, at least from what I’m used to, a microphone that operates with both smartphones and cameras requires a different cable (or a different connector) for each device.
Decent mount – Although Comica’s mount is from what appears to be cheap plastic, it is quite elastic (unlike the hard plastic mount of the BOYA BY-MM1‘s).
Hopefully, over time it will prove to be durable, but my impression is that unless you will use it in extreme conditions – then it should last longer.
The cable at the back of the device doesn’t stick out too much – Since the microphone has a built-in cable, it doesn’t require a connector that goes into the microphone and sticks out (like it is with the BOYA BY-MM1 and similar models).
I mention that because when I’m using microphones with a separate connecting cable, and don’t remove the wire following the use, then it might get bent (for instance, if I place everything into a storage bag).
Cons
The cable isn’t detachable – If something happens to the wire (it gets cut or damaged), then the microphone might become useless.
Can’t be detached from the mount – If something breaks or you need to make special modifications to your equipment, then it isn’t possible with the Comica CVM-V30 Lite.
Requires a rig when used with a smartphone – If you plan to use the microphone with a smartphone, you will have to make sure to have a smartphone rig, a tripod, a boom pole, or any other proper mount for it.
