The pros:
The screen is impressive – It has a “Waterdrop” screen that is almost bezel-less.
The position of the front camera – When the front camera is aligned to the center, it is much more convenient to take front photos & videos. My claim applies to shots taken while holding the smartphone vertically.
Works smoothly – One of the most annoying things about relatively cheap smartphones is when they offer impressive specifications, but the experience is far from what you hope for.
But when it comes to the DOOGEE Y8, you can be rest assured that it will run apps such as Google Chrome, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, and the camera properly.
The phone will cope with more demanding apps (such as certain games) but it is not intended for this kind of purpose, so keep that in mind.

The cons:
It wasn’t supplied with any protective accessories – I’m not sure if the DOOGEE Y8 is sold with a screen protector, protective case or both, but usually when I purchase smartphones in this price range, the sellers/manufacturers offer these accessories for free.
Unfortunately, the DOOGEE Y8 wasn’t supplied with any of these accessories.
When I want to answer an incoming phone call, the “Answer” key doesn’t respond properly – I’m trying to swipe the “Answer” key up to confirm that I want to answer the call, but I have to do that several times, before the call is approved.
I’m not sure if this is a bug within the smartphone itself or the operating system, but I didn’t encounter this issue in other smartphones that runs Android 9.0.
Protrusive rear camera – Recently I noticed several models of smartphones that offers a camera that isn’t built-in at the back of the smartphone. From what I understand, the terminology for that is “Camera Bump”.
Although this isn’t an elegant solution, I assume there’s a justification for that, as long as the camera is worth it. But this issue bothers me for two main reasons:
- It is less convenient when holding the smartphone.
- The camera is more prone to scratches.
This issue stopped bothering me once I purchased a protective case with the Doogee Y8.
