Summary:

The Barista is an advanced milk frother by Nespresso. Use it for preparation of a variety of hot & cold drinks, including coffee, milk & chocolate drinks. It can connect to a smartphone using Bluetooth & a designated app.

The brand: Nespresso
The model: Barista

The pros:

Technology at it’s best – The Barista is the next generation milk frother. It has different modes, a touch screen, and a Bluetooth connection.

For each recipe, the machine rotates at different speeds and patterns. The change is not only between the recipes but also during the preparation of each drink.

Various types of drinks in a press of a button – You can prepare with the Barista so many drinks that are subject only to your imagination.

Here are the available drinks / recipes:

Cleaning your milk frother has never been easier – The jug is separate from the base so that you can wash it easily.

Also, unlike metal coil whisk that sometimes “grabs” layers of dried milk stuck in it, it is easy to clean the big, plastic whisk.

The aforementioned is relevant, considering you fill the milk to the right level and seal the jug’s lid.

Design & build quality – I find the Barista modern and elegant, though the choice of colors is limited to one color.

The oval shape and body of the machine are different, in my opinion, from the Nespresso Aerochino Family.

By the way, did you know that the Barista is manufactured in Ukraine? I wonder if Vladimir Putin knows that.

Power – When the Barista operates, it is noticeable that it has a much more powerful motor inside.

What I like about the way it operates is that it isn’t translated into more noise or movement of the surface. This extra power is converted into a different texture of drinks compared to simple milk frothers.

So the cappuccino it generates differs from the Latte Macchiato it produces not only by the ratio of ingredients but also in the milk texture.

Easy to operate – The touchscreen is responsive, and the parts go in/out smoothly.

Extended warranty – Nespresso give two years warranty for this device, which is double than what they offer (in my region) to a standard milk frother.

The stirring spoon that comes with the Barista is handy – The original purpose of the stirring spoon is to use it for the preparation of drinks such as the Latte Art.

The spoon is useable for this task, and it does that well. But since I’m not the ordinary person who would spend time on non-practical purposes, I found a better reason to appreciate the existence of this spoon.

Usually, I drink from a tall transparent mug, and I admit to being lazy when it comes to stirring the prepared drink (my excuse is that I’m very busy).

What happens is that I fill the mug with the espresso, add the frothed milk, and shake the mug to mix the ingredients.

But once I began using the stirring spoon, the cappuccino taste improved to a new level of flavor. Though any spoon can do that, I appreciate the fact that someone at Nespresso thought to add a spoon with the package.

Various languages – The Barista can display all the details in different languages. Though not all languages available, this is still impressive.

Available languages:

The cons:

Price – Nice things cost money. And the Nespresso Barista isn’t cheap. It is pricier compared to other milk frothers in general, and specifically more than those by Nespresso.

The thing is that it is even more expensive compared to many coffee makers. And as I see things, usually, the coffee maker is the more expensive purchase, while the milk frother serves as a complementary device.

Size – Considering its measurements, I could easily confuse between the Nespresso Barista and the Nutri NINJA blender.

Do you plan to prepare all those recipes? – I strongly advise you to ask your self this question if you consider purchase this device.

If you want a specific drink that requires only milk frothing, then there’s no justification to spend so much money on the Barista.

You need to be cautious with the jug after use – because it is very hot.

Make sure to place the jug lid properly; otherwise, it will spill quickly – The Barista is a powerful milk frother, and when it is on, the ingredients inside spin quickly. That is why it is essential to place the jug lid properly.

It might sound obvious, but Barista is less forgiving than other milk frothers that can operate without the jug lid.

From what I understand, if the base gets wet, this isn’t covered by Nespresso’s warranty – And I foresee there will be many people who will contact Nespresso’s customer support because of that.

The app isn’t available in certain areas – The Nespresso App in my current area doesn’t offer any features that support nor relevant to the Barista. That’s the main reason why I didn’t acknowledge that in my review so far.

I already encountered this issue with the Nespresso Expert, and since then, it has been a while, but still no supporting Nespresso app.

You need to wait a bit when turning on the device – When enabling the Barista, the display shows a “Hello” message for several seconds.

It wastes several seconds until you can starting making your favorite drink. I am not used to this delay from other milk frothers I reviewed.
