Overview
This review covers my experience replacing the battery on my Dyson V8 Absolute — a vacuum that’s been part of my cleaning setup for quite a while.
What triggered this?
The charging pin broke, and the vacuum stopped working altogether.
As someone who shares a home with a free-range bird and a rabbit (aka: professional mess-makers), this wasn’t just inconvenient — it was urgent.
Instead of rushing to buy a brand-new vacuum (which I’ll admit, I was kind of tempted to do), I decided to try a third-party battery replacement and see if it could bring the V8 back to life.
In this review, I’ll share the full story — from what I bought and why, to what happened when I installed it — and whether it actually worked.
First, here’s the quick unboxing and swap demo I captured on video:

Model | V8 6INR22/71 |
Both batteries look nearly identical, including the presence of an LED indicator on both sides.
Technically, they operate at the same voltage (21.6V) and deliver nearly identical energy output — 2,800mAh vs. 3,000mAh, and 65Wh vs. 64.8Wh.
The original Dyson battery includes a more detailed label with certifications and warnings, but most users likely won’t read this information — or know what to do with it unless specifically required.

Pros
Price – The battery costs half to a third of the original Dyson battery, depending on the region. For anyone looking to save money without compromising on performance, this is a very budget-friendly alternative.
Design – The design is nearly identical to the original, with a matching shape, color, and connectors. Once installed, it’s hard to notice any difference. Just like the original, it includes three blue LED lights that display the remaining battery power.
Vacuum Performance – The vacuum performs just as well with this battery. There’s no reduction in suction power or responsiveness. For daily use – short cleaning sessions throughout the day – it works smoothly and without issues.
Battery Life – So far, the battery holds a charge impressively well. It doesn’t drain quickly, and it seems to deliver its true rated capacity, based on both the usage time and the LED indicator lights. I genuinely hope this performance holds up over time and repeated charging cycles — and that the battery won’t start degrading too soon, as can sometimes happen with non-original units.
Cons
Not an official Dyson product – This battery is third-party and not manufactured or endorsed by Dyson. It might technically affect warranty coverage, though in practice, it’s unlikely Dyson could verify or enforce that — especially once the battery is already installed.
No documentation or identifiable branding – The battery arrived in a plain cardboard box, without any manual, branding, or instructions. I purchased it from a store with strong feedback, which gave me confidence — but aside from a small sticker on the battery, there’s no clear product information. That’s something to be aware of, especially with products like batteries that must meet safety standards.
Some third-party batteries advertise better price-to-capacity ratios – While searching for a replacement battery, I came across many non-original brands — often unfamiliar — offering significantly larger advertised capacities at similar prices. On paper, these seemed like better value for money, but I had concerns about actual performance, added weight, and long-term reliability. It’s something worth exploring, but with caution.
Overall Verdict
All in all, this purchase looks promising – especially considering the affordable price and how well the vacuum performs with the new battery. Performance is solid, the design matches the original, and daily use hasn’t revealed any issues so far.
That said, the real test will be over time: will the battery maintain its capacity after months of regular use and recharging?
Since this vacuum is no longer new and out of warranty, I felt more comfortable buying a non-original battery. If genuine batteries were more reasonably priced, the choice would’ve been easier. But given the high cost of official replacements, this seemed like a risk worth taking.
As always, if anything changes, I’ll update this post.
I also invite others who’ve purchased compatible batteries to share their insights in the comments — your experience might help others make a smarter choice.
